Samsung Attracts Developers to New Era of Smart TV

Samsung is helping developers, content providers and application enthusiasts join the smart television era and transform the viewing experience at home. Today, the inaugural Free the TV Developer Day is being held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose. The event helps developers better understand the Samsung Smart TV platform, Samsung Apps, and the ever expanding market opportunities for TV applications.
Free the TV Developer Day is a core element of Samsung’s Free the TV Challenge, which aims to fuel continued innovation on the Samsung Apps platform. The Free the TV Challenge encourages developers to build better looking, creative, and functional apps for the platform. The contest launched on August 11 and will award a half million dollars in prizes.
The event brings together leaders across the connected TV ecosystem – content, retail and technology – underscoring the deep industry support driving the growth of smart TV. The roster of speakers at the event include:

Samsung Helmet of Hope Selects First Charities

The first two children’s charities for the Samsung Helmet of Hope were selected by three-time Brickyard winner Jimmie Johnson at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 23, 2010. Beads of Courage (Tucson, Ariz.) and Hunter’s Hope Foundation (Orchard Park, N.Y.) will be the first two charities to grace the helmet, which Johnson will wear in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Auto Club Speedway in October.
Each organization will also receive a grant of $10,000.
